Sports Medicine
Introduction
This guide is intended as a general introduction to the principal sources in Sports Medicine. It is not intended to be a definitive nor exhaustive guide to the subject. Sports Medicine in its widest sense includes information on psychology, nutrition, injuries, and biochemistry. This guide is intended for undergraduate students and researchers, although others will also find it useful.

From The University of Sheffield, it indexes MAs, MScs, MEs, MPhils and
PhDs from UK universities.
Abstracts and Indexes
Some institutions and organisations offer literature searches for a fee. Others may require membership or subscription for services. BIDS (Bath Information Data Services) and the ISI Web of Knowledge are subscription services available in most Higher Education institutions. For further details enquire at your library.
Embase is available online and on CD-Rom. Coverage spans all areas of human medicine and related biomedical research, with 6 million abstracts dating back to 1980.
Medline / PubMed
is available on CD-Rom and online.
It covers all aspects of medicine and related biological sciences. Medline
is produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It contains information
from over 4500 scientific and medical journals and includes over 12 million
records.
SMART available
in paper, CD-Rom and online formats
London: National Sports Medicine Institute
Lists recently published research in the field of Sports Medicine including
references from international sports medicine literature and from a wide
range of scientific and medical publications. Subscribers can order copies
of articles from the NSMI collection.
SPORTDiscus is available online and on CD-Rom. It was developed by the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC), SPORTDiscus covers both the practical and research literature on sport, physical fitness and physical education. It indexes periodical articles, books, conference proceedings, dissertations and theses, research papers and other publishing forms. It also includes HERACLES, a French language bibliographic database covering sport, physical education and fitness.
Sports Documentation Monthly Bulletin, is produced by the University
of Birmingham, Centre for Sports Science and History
Lists articles from Britain and abroad. Subject coverage is sports science,
physical education and recreation studies.
Sports Medicine Bulletin, produced by The National Sports Medicine
Institute, it lists recently published research in the field of Sports
Medicine including references from international sports medicine literature
and from a wide range of scientific and medical publications. Subscribers
can order copies of articles from the NSMI collection.
Year Book of Sports Medicine, published by The American College
of Sports Medicine, this annual contains abstracts with commentary by
experts in the field.
