How To Find OutSports Nutrition
IntroductionThe interaction between Nutrition and Sport is widely recognised. There have been a large number of studies that show the relationship between nutritional intake and its effects on physical activities, be it for leisure or for high level performances. This guide is intended to be a general introduction to the subject of Sports Nutrition. It is not to be seen as an exhaustive guide. It is aimed at students at undergraduate level and for researchers.

JournalsThere is only one major journal dedicated to Sports Nutrition. Journals generally covering sports medicine and nutrition may have relevant articles on Sports Nutrition. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (USA)
Abstracts and IndexesSome institutions and organisations offer literature searches for a fee. Others may require membership or subscription for services. BIDS (Bath Information Data Services) and the ISI Web of Knowledge are subscription services available in most Higher Education institutions. For further details enquire at your library. Embase is available online and on CD-Rom. Coverage spans all areas of human medicine and related biomedical research, with 6 million abstracts dating back to 1980. Food Science and Technology Abstracts deals with all aspects of
food - from science, to production to packaging. Articles are indexed
from journals, patents, books, conference proceedings, reports, etc. Subject
coverage includes health and nutrition. Available in online and CD-Rom
formats. Nutrition and Food Sciences is available online from CAB International. This resource includes references with abstracts. Subjects include sports nutrition. Nutrition Databases are available via the online and in print from CAB International. These databases correspond to the journals Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews Series' A & B. SMART is now only available online. Produced by the National Sports Medicine Institute, it lists recently published research in the field of Sports Medicine including references from international sports medicine literature and from a wide range of scientific and medical publications. Subscribers can order copies of articles from the NSMI collection. SPORTDiscus is available online and on CD-Rom. It was developed by the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC), SPORTDiscus covers both the practical and research literature on sport, physical fitness and physical education. It indexes periodical articles, books, conference proceedings, dissertations and theses, research papers and other publishing forms. It also includes HERACLES, a French language bibliographic database covering sport, physical education and fitness. Sports Documentation Monthly Bulletin, is produced by the University
of Birmingham, Centre for Sports Science and History Lists articles from
Britain and abroad. Subject coverage is sports science, physical education
and recreation studies.
