SPRIG

Professional Development Award

SPRIG Professional Development Awards are intended to support professional development in a broad sense. Awards may be made to SPRIG members, including staff and students of organisational members and can be used to fund activities such as conference attendance, study tours or exchange of experience visits.

This year the award has been given to Jane Somervell, Subject Liaison Librarian, University of Worcester. Jane will be attending The Joint CoFHE/UC&R Study Conference 2006, 'Lead, Develop, Change: future-proofing your skills'. A report on the conference will appear in a future bulletin.

A maximum £1,000 will be awarded per annum and this may be split between two or more applicants. A small panel will consider applications. Successful applicants will be expected to share their experience with SPRIG members by, for example, writing an article for the SPRIG Bulletin.

Please read the rules and selection criteria before submitting your application. If you are unsure if your proposed activity is eligible we are happy to discuss it with you informally before you make an application.

Amount of award
The total amount awarded will not exceed £1,000 in any one financial year. Applicants will be told the amount awarded. SPRIG will pay the actual cost of the activity up to the amount awarded. Any excess costs shall be paid by the applicant. SPRIG's financial position will be taken into account when considering the amount of funding (if any) that can be provided in any one financial year. The amount awarded may be split between two or more applicants. The maximum amount awarded to any one applicant shall not exceed £1,000 in any one financial year

Purpose of award
The award is intended to support professional development in the broadest sense. Examples include attendance at a conference, study tours or exchange of experience visits.

Determination of awards

The panel may seek further clarification from the applicant or advice from the referee supplied by the applicant. The decision of the panel is final and shall be made using the published selection criteria.

Payment of awards
SPRIG will pay 50% of the agreed award amount within one month of the decision being made. Repayment of the initial 50% paid will be required if the activity is not undertaken . Claims for the second payment must be made within one year of the activity taking place.
